The importance of solar energy stems from the most basic need of men to survive in this planet. Without solar energy, life on earth would not be possible. This may have been neglected by most people but there are so many other aspects in life and on this earth that makes solar energy very important.
For one, plants need energy for their daily existence. They need the rays given off by the sun to manufacture their own food; the process is referred to as photosynthesis. Aside from that, plants also need solar energy to produce oxygen and to remove carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Without solar energy, oxygen would not be produced and human life would not be possible.
Solar energy is also important in the generation of oceanic waves. It is also the one responsible for regulating the salt and fresh water mix by melting and freezing the polar ice caps repeatedly. This is the one that provides a living environment for the ocean creatures.
Aside from this indispensable role of solar energy in the daily existence of mankind, it is also very important to sustain life on the planet. Solar energy has been harnessed to power up industries, towns, and even cities. There are already so many solar plants that were put up in the United States utilizing solar panels to derive the energy from the sun, harness it and provide power to different homes and other places where electricity is needed. It is a renewable energy resource that could save the planet which, ironically, it originally provides life to as well.
