Most of the sources of energy that exist today are derived from non-renewables, primarily coal and petroleum. Coal is used by various power plants all over the world. Although different countries have now made it a point to replace coal-fired power plants with more positive energy sources like solar, wind, hydro, geothermal and wave. Government agencies, along with private entities have come up with different energy projects in order to realize the use of positive energy sources.
All over the world today, you could now see many solar power plants being constructed. In fact, there are already numerous solar power plants that are in operation. The largest solar power installation is found in Mojave Desert, California. The SEGS CSP could has a whopping 354 megawatt capacity. Spain also has large solar power installations, with one having a 100 megawatt capacity, and the other having 150 megawatt capacity. Aside from these large solar power plants, there are now smaller solar power installations that are made available to homeowners and to businesses. In fact, many commercial centers utilize solar power, not only to help reduce greenhouse gases, but also to gather substantial savings on utility bills.
Aside from solar power, wind power has also gained popularity. In the US, several wind power plants are already operational, providing several megawatts of power to communities. The largest onshore wind farms are found in the United States, specifically the Roscoe Wind Farm, having a capacity of 781.5 megawatts. The Horse Hollow Wind Energy Center having a capacity of 735.5 megawatts comes in second. The UK, on the other hand, has the largest offshore wind farm, the Thanet Wind Farm, having a capacity of 300 megawatts.
At current time, more energy research is conducted in order to maximize the potential of these positive energy sources. The moment that all energy sources are renewable, the world would be a better place to live in.
